UK to see rare solar eclipse and Perseid meteor shower on Aug 12, 2026, as global planetary parade occurs in July

On August 12, 2026, the United Kingdom will experience a deep partial solar eclipse, with up to 91% of the Sun obscured across major cities such as London, Manchester and Glasgow. The eclipse will be followed by the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, offering ideal viewing conditions because the Moon will set with the Sun, leaving a dark night sky.

Earlier, on July 11‑12, 2026, a planetary parade will align the Moon with Mars, Saturn and Uranus before sunrise. NASA notes the waning crescent Moon will help locate the planets, which are visible to the naked eye, though binoculars or a telescope improve the view of Uranus. The event is expected to be observable worldwide, including in India.

Both events provide rare opportunities for skywatchers to observe multiple celestial phenomena within a short period in 2026.
