UK warns British tourists of safety risks on Italy's beaches and lakes

Italy has introduced new rules aimed at reducing overcrowding and nuisance on the island of Capri. From summer 2026, organised tour groups are limited to 40 people, and groups larger than 20 must use earpieces instead of loudspeakers. Large umbrellas, flags and other oversized signs are prohibited, and an anti‑harassment ordinance bans aggressive public solicitation by tourism operators, with fines of €25‑€500.

The UK Foreign Office has updated its Italy travel advice, urging British holiday‑makers to supervise children closely around beaches, lakes and swimming pools. It highlights the danger of drowning, cold‑water shock, strong undercurrents and hidden rocks, and advises checking flag systems and water temperature before entering the water.
