UKIM begins student enrollment amid heat and dual registration system

Enrollment processes have commenced at Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM) amid high temperatures and a heat index of 8. Due to a dual system, prospective students must present physical documents at faculty counters in addition to electronic applications.

Across the university's 23 faculties, there are 8,851 available spots. The Faculty of Medicine has the highest capacity with 950 positions. Other notable faculties include FINKI, which is opening 500 spots, and the Faculty of Law.

Total enrollment quotas across all universities have been reduced by 2,000 places this year. Reductions are most prominent in business, administration, and law due to high unemployment rates among graduates in those fields. Conversely, technical fields such as informatics, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering maintain high employment rates of approximately 98-99 percent.

Students have expressed frustration regarding the lack of full digitalization, noting long queues in extreme heat. Academic leaders have indicated that transitioning to electronic high school certificates is necessary to achieve a fully digital registration process.
