Macedonian university enrollment for 2026-2027

Major Macedonian universities have released enrollment schedules and capacity details for the 2026-2027 academic year. Goce Delchev University (UGD) in Stip announced its first enrollment round for 12 faculties and three academies, with Rector Dejan Mirakovski noting a “28% increase in applications compared to the previous year.”

Ss. Cyril and Methodius University (UKIM) in Skopje has opened its first application round for 8,851 spots across 23 faculties. The available positions include 4,395 state-funded spots, 3,621 co-financed regular spots, and 835 part-time spots. High-capacity faculties include the Medical Faculty (950), the Philological Faculty (805), and FINKI.

Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska stated that total university quotas have been “reduced by approximately 2,000 places following a labor market analysis.” These reductions are most prominent in business, administration, and law to address high unemployment rates in those sectors. In contrast, technical fields like informatics, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering maintain employment rates of approximately 98-99 percent.

As enrollment begins, prospective students have expressed frustration over the lack of full digitalization. Due to a dual registration system, applicants must present physical documents at faculty counters in addition to electronic applications, leading to long queues during extreme heat. Academic leaders noted that transitioning to electronic high school certificates is required to achieve a fully digital process.
