Ukmergė council member Algirdas Kopūstas convicted of fraud

Algirdas Kopūstas, a member of the Ukmergė District Municipality Council, has been convicted of abuse of office, fraud, and document forgery. The Vilnius Regional District Court issued a 7,000 euro fine and banned him from holding elected or appointed positions in state or municipal institutions for three years.

According to the prosecution and the Special Investigation Service, between 2019 and 2023, Kopūstas forged 24 expense reports. He submitted false data regarding fuel costs related to his council activities, using bank cards belonging to other individuals to pay for the fuel. The court determined that through these fraudulent reports, he illicitly obtained 3,686.43 euros from the Ukmergė District Municipality administration.
