The Russia-Ukraine conflict is escalating into a war of mutual destruction focused on critical infrastructure. Serhii Beskrestnov, an advisor to President Zelenskyy, warned that both nations risk total economic and infrastructural collapse. He highlighted the vulnerability of Kyiv, noting that Russian ballistic missile strikes on electricity, water, and heating systems could force the evacuation of 2 to 3 million people this winter.

In response, Ukraine is planning to significantly increase its long-range drone strikes from approximately 300 to 1,000 per day, targeting Russian military and economic assets, including refineries and warehouses. These drones may also be used to disrupt Russian civil aviation by forcing airport closures.

Recent drone activity has caused significant damage. In Russia, the Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 306 drones across multiple regions. However, strikes in the Perm region hit a residential building and the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez refinery, resulting in one death and four injuries. In Ukraine, a drone attack on Zaporizhzhia injured 15 people and caused fires in residential and administrative buildings. Meanwhile, the conflict in the Black Sea continues to threaten global food security due to potential blockades of grain routes.
