Ukraine and EU agree on financial and defense support framework
Ukraine and the European Commission have reached an agreement on the framework, timelines, and necessary steps to secure financial and defense support for 2026 and 2027. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the dialogue has yielded “good results” to ensure full coverage of the country's needs.
Ukraine faces significant funding gaps, including a $27 billion requirement for defense in the current year and a projected $32.6 billion budget deficit for next year. For 2026, measures have been established to address both budgetary and defense requirements. Looking further ahead, the parties agreed to work toward the allocation of 45 billion euros from a loan intended for Ukraine in 2027.
On the battlefield, Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reported that Russian aerial attacks are increasingly targeting civilians to instill terror. In response, Ukraine is scaling up the use of a new generation of interceptor drones designed to counter fast-moving Russian jet-powered drones.
