Ukraine and Moldova strengthen transport and sanctions cooperation
Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova are intensifying cooperation regarding transport infrastructure, border development, and the prevention of international sanctions evasion. These topics were addressed during a meeting on August 20 between the Ukrainian Ambassador to Chișinău, Paun Rohovei, and Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Vladimir Bolea.
The discussions focused on developing transport connections, managing logistics corridors, and modernizing border infrastructure to improve traffic flow and reduce crossing times. Key projects include the acceleration of the Cosăuți-Iampol road bridge, which will establish a new transport link between the two nations.
Additionally, the officials discussed maritime and fluvial transport, as well as the transit of Ukrainian goods through Moldova. The Ukrainian Ambassador expressed gratitude for the temporary transit mechanism and the preferential conditions provided for Ukrainian grain traveling to Romanian ports. Both parties also emphasized the need to prevent the use of Moldovan transport mechanisms and the national naval register to bypass international sanctions.
