Ukraine and Romania expand fuel supply routes

Ukraine and Romania have reached agreements to expand the capacity of railway and river supply routes for fuel transport. These logistical enhancements aim to secure fuel supplies as Russian attacks continue to target Ukraine's energy and transport infrastructure.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the agreements were established following recent meetings between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian leadership. The two governments are currently working on implementing these concrete measures, with a specific focus on the routes passing through Romania.

To further mitigate risks, the Ukrainian government has launched a pilot project to develop a network of underground storage facilities. This initiative is designed to protect petroleum products and increase fuel reserves, prioritizing diesel supplies for defense and critical infrastructure. While the current fuel market remains stable and sufficient for consumer needs, the diversification of supply routes via Romania and Danube ports is seen as a vital step in reducing vulnerability to military actions.
