Overview

Ukraine and Romania have moved to expand fuel supply capacity through enhanced railway and river transport routes. This logistical expansion follows meetings between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian leadership and includes a Ukrainian pilot project to develop underground storage facilities to protect petroleum products and diesel reserves.

Between late August and early September, Russian strikes targeted several border control points, including drone strikes on the Reni-Giurgiulești crossing and attacks on the Orlovka-Isaccea ferry crossing, which serves as the primary connection to Romania. These attacks have caused temporary suspensions of operations at key transit points.
