South Korea accused of supplying fuel to Russia amid sanctions dispute

Ukraine has accused South Korea of undermining international sanctions by supplying petroleum products to Russia. According to reports from The Guardian, over 176,000 metric tons of fuel, primarily diesel, were transported from South Korean ports to Russia via seven tankers during July and August. Vladyslav Vlasiuk, a sanctions advisor to the Ukrainian president, noted that these shipments accounted for approximately 31 percent of Russia's fuel imports in August and arrived just as Ukrainian drone strikes were reducing Russia's domestic refining capacity.

Analysis indicates that three of the seven tankers involved are currently under UK or EU sanctions. One vessel reportedly used ship-to-ship transfers in South Korean waters to obscure the origin of the cargo.

The South Korean presidential office has dismissed these accusations as inappropriate and inaccurate. Officials stated that South Korea has consistently enforced export controls and sanctions in coordination with the international community. The government is currently investigating the claims to determine if any export control violations occurred.
