Ukraine conflict moves further from diplomatic resolution, analysts warn

Analysts suggest that the conflict in Ukraine is moving further away from a diplomatic solution or ceasefire. Military analyst Scott Ritter argues that Western powers, including the United States and Europe, lack the capacity to help Ukraine achieve a victory. He notes that the U.S. has reportedly withheld sensitive technologies, such as PAC-3 missiles, and that European nations have been hesitant to deplete their own missile stocks.

Fyodor Lukyanov, president of the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, echoed these concerns, stating that the war is more distant from a political resolution now than it was a year ago. He noted that increased long-range Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory have led to intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. Lukyanov characterized the expectation of a quick resolution as ‘absolutely unreal,’ comparing the protracted nature of the conflict to the Vietnam War.

Furthermore, Lukyanov suggested that European unity is currently being sustained by the perceived threat of Russia, implying that some European leadership may favor a prolonged conflict over serious negotiations.
