SBU headquarters in Kyiv struck by Russian drone
A Russian drone strike hit the central headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv, located near the UNESCO World Heritage site of St. Sophia Cathedral. The attack specifically targeted the office of SBU acting head Oleksandr Poklad, though he was not present at the time of the strike. Reports indicate that the explosion caused significant damage to the building's roof and exterior walls, with casualties ranging from five to twelve injured individuals.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has ordered the SBU and the Ukrainian military to prepare a proportional and tangible response to the strike. In a separate incident, a Russian drone strike also damaged a Coca-Cola manufacturing plant in Brovary, near Kyiv. While the facility sustained damage and a fire broke out, the company reported that all employees were safe.
The escalation comes amid a surge in Russian aerial activity, including the use of high-speed jet-powered drones that are increasingly difficult for Ukrainian air defenses to intercept. Additionally, Ukraine has issued warnings to international airlines regarding the heightened risks of operating in Russian airspace due to increased drone and missile activity.
