Ukraine Deploys Low‑Cost Interceptor Drone and Halts Russian Shahed Drone Control via Belarus Relay Shutdown

Two Ukrainian defence firms, Vyriy Industries and NOCTIS, have introduced the ZIRKA interceptor drone designed to neutralise Russian Shahed loitering munitions. The drone can fly above 340 km/h, reach altitudes of up to 6 km, operate within a 30 km radius and stay airborne for 20 minutes. It automatically detects, tracks and engages targets without continuous operator input, and each unit costs up to $2,000. A follow‑up version, ZIRKA 2.0, is already in development with enhanced thermal optics and autonomous guidance.

Separately, Ukraine says the shutdown of relay stations on the Belarusian side of the border has severely limited Russia’s ability to control Shahed drones in real time. While the drones continue to fly, the loss of the relays removes live video feeds that previously allowed Russian operators to adjust strikes on moving targets. The relay shutdown followed President Zelensky’s ultimatum to Belarus to dismantle the equipment.

"Each unit costs up to $2,000," the developers noted, and a Ukrainian Air Force spokesperson said, "The drones haven’t disappeared, but it has become much more difficult for the enemy."
