Ukraine develops domestic ballistic missiles via Fire Point

Ukraine is developing its first domestic ballistic missiles since the Soviet era to reduce reliance on foreign military aid. The initiative is led by the company Fire Point, which previously produced the FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile.

Fire Point is currently designing two distinct weapons: the FP-7 and the FP-9. The FP-7 is a short-range missile with a 200-kilometer range and a 150-kilogram warhead, intended for tactical targets near the front lines such as command centers and ammunition depots. The FP-9 is a strategic long-range weapon with a range of 600 to 800 kilometers, designed to strike deep within Russian territory.

This development marks a shift in the conflict toward ballistic capabilities. While Ukraine has utilized American ATACMS, stocks remain limited. Domestic production aims to bridge the industrial gap between Ukraine and Russia's significant missile manufacturing capacity.
