Ukraine drone campaign targets Russian oil refining capacity
Ukraine is intensifying its drone campaign against Russian energy and logistics infrastructure. Recent strikes have targeted major oil facilities, including the Taneco refinery in Tatarstan, located approximately 1,200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. These attacks have contributed to a significant reduction in Russian oil refining capacity, with analysts estimating that roughly 50% of Russia's refining power has been disrupted.
While President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has characterized the drone offensive as a successful operation that has caused billions of rubles in losses, some assessments suggest the campaign has not yet achieved its primary political goal of forcing a ceasefire on Ukrainian terms. Additionally, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reportedly faced challenges in replicating previous successes in deep-strike operations due to Russian intelligence responses.
On the ground, the conflict continues to impact emergency services. In Kramatorsk, a Russian drone strike targeted firefighters during an active fire suppression operation, damaging a vehicle and creating life-threatening conditions for first responders.
