Ukraine faces high-speed Russian drones amid Kupiansk counteroffensive

The technological landscape of the conflict in Ukraine is shifting as new unmanned systems emerge on both sides. Ukrainian interception drones are reportedly struggling to keep pace with new Russian reactive unmanned vehicles, such as the Guerán-4, Guerán-5, and the Banderol hybrid drone-missile. These Russian systems are capable of reaching speeds between 500 and 650 km/h, making reliable interception difficult for current Ukrainian drone technology.

In the Kupiansk sector of the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian air assault forces have utilized FPV drones to conduct a successful counteroffensive. The 77th Independent Naddniprianska Air Mobile Brigade reported the destruction of 114 armored military shelters and engineering positions. Additionally, the operation neutralized 38 units of military equipment, including motorcycles and at least three terrestrial robotic complexes. These strikes aim to disrupt Russian efforts to consolidate logistics and concentrate infantry for large-scale assaults in the area.
