Ukraine faces intensified Russian aerial attacks and impact on Crimea tourism

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported a significant escalation in Russian aerial attacks, spanning 13 Ukrainian regions within a single week. According to the Ukrainian president, the offensive included over 1,550 attack drones, approximately 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles, many of which were ballistic types. Zelenskyy has called on European partners to release interceptor missiles from their stockpiles, stating that these resources should not remain ‘trapped in warehouses’ while Ukraine faces a war of attrition targeting both front lines and civilian communities.

Simultaneously, the conflict is impacting Russian domestic sectors, specifically tourism in Crimea. Ukrainian strikes on energy infrastructure, oil depots, and supply networks have led to fuel shortages and power outages in the region. The Russian Union of Travel Agents reported approximately one million travel cancellations to Crimea as of June 30, with estimated losses reaching 25 billion rubles (approximately $320 million). The instability in the peninsula, a major summer destination, reflects the broader consequences of Ukrainian operations against Russian logistics and energy facilities.
