Ukraine faces long path to Storm Shadow missile production

British Deputy Defense Minister Louise Sandher-Jones stated that Ukraine remains a long way from being able to domestically produce Western Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles due to the high complexity of these weapon systems.

To address military needs, the UK is collaborating with Ukraine on the Brakestop project, which aims to develop a low-cost, long-range cruise missile that can be manufactured in sufficient quantities.

Previous diplomatic efforts include the UK government agreeing to allow the defense company MBDA to transfer classified data regarding SCALP components to Ukraine. Similarly, France has reached agreements with Ukraine for the licensed production of various weapons, including AASM guided bombs, Aster 30 missiles for SAMP-T air defense systems, and SCALP missiles.
