Ukrainian forces down Russian Su‑35 fighter with coordinated F‑16 and Patriot strike

The Ukrainian Air Force reported that a Russian Su‑35 fighter jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine. According to Ukrainian sources, the operation involved three F‑16 combat aircraft and a Patriot surface‑to‑air defence system. One F‑16 simulated a glide‑bomb attack to lure the Su‑35, while the other two provided cover and engaged the target. The Patriot system, positioned about 60 km from the front line, illuminated the aircraft with its radar, extending detection range and enabling the interception. The Russian pilot ejected and was rescued. Russian channels have not officially confirmed the loss, but independent reports and footage released by Ukrainian officials show the wreckage of the $80 million jet. The incident marks a significant tactical success for Ukraine, demonstrating effective integration of NATO‑supplied fighters and air‑defence assets against one of Russia’s most advanced combat aircraft.
