Ukraine implements new border regime amid drone activity near Poland
Ukraine has implemented a special border regime in a one-kilometre-wide strip along its borders with Russia and Belarus to enhance oversight. Under the amended government resolution, individuals and legal entities must obtain permits from relevant border guard detachments—including those in Volyn, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv—to reside, work, or stay temporarily within this zone.
In Poland, border authorities reported that the situation at crossings with Ukraine has stabilized following disruptions caused by drone activity on the Ukrainian side. Polish Border Guard Commander General Robert Bagan noted that movement was periodically suspended due to the threat of unmanned aerial vehicles. One drone strike near the Dorohusk crossing hit a gas station, causing an explosion strong enough to shake windows at the Polish facility and necessitating the evacuation of over 280 travelers and 50 officials. Another strike reportedly hit a freight train locomotive near Hrebenne.
