Ukraine intelligence identifies components of Russian Filin cruise missile
The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (GUR) has reported details regarding the Russian Filin (Owl) cruise missile, a low-cost weapon recently deployed in attacks against Kyiv.
According to GUR, the Filin features a composite body, can reach speeds of 800 km/h, and flies at extremely low altitudes. It is produced in two versions with warhead weights of 50kg and 100kg. The missile utilizes a solid-fuel propulsion engine and is manufactured by PLAZ LLC, the same company involved in producing Harpia drones.
Technical analysis indicates the missile relies on Chinese-made inertial guidance systems and Kometa 16-channel anti-jamming antennas. Notably, the Filin contains a high proportion of American and Chinese electronic components, including an R500 engine from Reynolds. Ukraine also reported the battlefield presence of modernized Lancet drones equipped with internal combustion engines.
