Ukraine intelligence identifies US and Chinese components in Russian Filin missile

The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR) has released a technical analysis and a 3D model of the Filin, a new Russian land-launched cruise missile. According to the intelligence report, the Russian military began deploying the weapon against Ukrainian territory in late summer 2026.

Developed by NPO Molniya, a subsidiary of the Tactical Missiles Corporation, the Filin is designed as a relatively low-cost, long-range strike weapon capable of sustained production. The missile features a carbon and glass fiber composite fuselage, with some parts manufactured using 3D printing. It has a length of 3.5 meters, a wingspan of approximately 3 meters, and a maximum speed of 800 kilometers per hour.

Technical analysis of the missile's wreckage revealed a significant reliance on foreign technology, identifying 35 components of United States origin and 22 components from China. The missile's guidance system includes a Chinese-made inertial navigation system and a 16-channel 'Kometa' module. The Filin has an operational range between 600 and 1,200 kilometers and can carry warheads weighing 50 or 100 kilograms, including fragmentation, penetrator, or thermobaric variants.
