Ukraine intercepts Russian plans to target winter energy infrastructure
Ukrainian intelligence services have obtained detailed Russian military documents outlining planned attacks on critical infrastructure for the upcoming winter. Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that the documents contain precise calculations, including tables specifying the types and quantities of weapons—ranging from ballistic missiles to drones—required to destroy specific targets.
The planned campaign aims to target not only power plants and energy transmission lines but also heating systems, water supplies, sewage services, and electrical interconnectors used to import energy from Europe. Separate strategic plans have reportedly been developed for major cities, including Kyiv, Odesa, and Kharkiv.
In response, Ukraine is fortifying its defenses, having already constructed over 200 protective structures near vital infrastructure and stockpiling repair equipment. International support remains active through initiatives like Energy Ramstein and the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, which has mobilized significant financial aid and equipment to bolster the nation's energy resilience.
