Ukraine investigates alleged execution of prisoners in Zaporizhzhia
The Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office has launched a pre-trial investigation into the alleged execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhia region. The incident is reported to have occurred in the Hulyai-Polia direction, where Russian servicemen allegedly captured Ukrainian defenders and subsequently shot them.
Investigators are operating under the supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office, looking into potential war crimes that resulted in death under the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Authorities are analyzing evidence provided by the military, including intercepted radio communications between Russian soldiers.
Maksym Kravchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian operational-strategic group 'South', stated that the killings were filmed by Ukrainian forces several days ago. He noted that intercepted dialogues allegedly contained orders for the immediate liquidation of wounded Ukrainian servicemen. Preliminary reports suggest two prisoners may have been killed, and investigators are looking into whether personnel from the 38th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade were involved.
