Ukraine launches 40‑day deep‑strike campaign against Russian targets

For 40 consecutive days, Ukraine has carried out a large‑scale long‑range strike campaign deep inside Russian territory. The operations have hit air bases, defence‑industry facilities, logistics hubs and a series of oil refineries, including a notable attack on the Omsk refinery located more than 2,500 km from the front line. Ukraine says all 11 of Russia’s major refineries have been targeted, causing significant damage and forcing reductions in output.

The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) reports that the campaign has disrupted roughly one‑third of Russia’s refining capacity, amounting to an estimated loss of about $13.5 billion. Over 100 attacks have also struck defence enterprises, air‑defence systems, command posts and transport infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved the operation on 25 June, aiming to pressure Moscow back to negotiations and to strain Russia’s energy sector.

Ukraine claims the strikes have compelled Russia to increase fuel imports from neighboring states, leading to higher gasoline prices and fuel shortages in several Russian regions.
