Ukraine launches massive drone strike on St Petersburg oil infrastructure

Ukraine conducted one of its largest aerial offensives of the war, launching over 1,000 drones at targets across Russia. The strikes heavily impacted St Petersburg, setting fire to the St Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchi oil depot, as well as industrial warehouses in the Kolpinsky district.

Local authorities reported that the attack killed at least one person and injured between five and ten others. The strikes also damaged residential buildings, hit a bridge, and disrupted flights at St Petersburg’s main airport. Additionally, the e-commerce company Ozon reported a fire at its logistics hub, and the technology company VK confirmed its data center in the Leningrad region was attacked.

The massive operation has heightened tensions between Kyiv and Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized the strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, stating he did not want to take actions that would drive Moscow away from the bargaining table. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected calls for an energy ceasefire, noting that Russia has continued its own attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities.
