Ukraine plans radical changes to military mobilization
Ukraine is preparing radical changes to its military mobilization system. Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, indicated that upcoming adjustments will likely involve changes to the conscription age. While he did not specify whether the age would be raised or lowered, he noted that official announcements are expected from the Ministry of Defense, the General Staff, or the President.
Regarding the involvement of women, Kostenko stated that there are currently no proposals to introduce mandatory service for women, noting that existing laws require women to join the military voluntarily. This follows previous suggestions from former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov, who argued that mandatory service for women could help address personnel shortages in the army by following the models of other nations.
