Russian missile and drone strikes have targeted Ukraine's publishing and cultural sectors, destroying an estimated 12 million books. This loss represents approximately one-third of the country's total book production for the year. The attacks have hit more than 35 publishing facilities and logistics warehouses in recent weeks.

A significant strike occurred near Kyiv at the Konvi printing house, which was in the process of producing 1.3 million textbooks—roughly 10% of the nation's required supply for the upcoming school year. The destruction of these materials poses a direct threat to the educational process starting in September.

Beyond the publishing industry, the strikes have damaged numerous cultural institutions, including museums, art galleries, and libraries. The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, also sustained damage to its golden domes. Ukrainian officials, including Culture Minister Tetiana Berezna, have characterized these actions as an attempt to erase Ukrainian national identity and culture.
