Ukraine recaptures 745 square kilometres in Dnipropetrovsk region

Ukraine has announced the successful conclusion of a military operation in the Dnipropetrovsk region, claiming to have recaptured 745 square kilometres of territory this year. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the campaign liberated 26 settlements and resulted in the deaths of nearly 10,000 Russian soldiers. The counteroffensive has pushed Russian forces back from areas they had occupied since June 2025, reclaiming land in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Zaporizhia regions.

Despite these territorial gains, Ukraine faces intensified Russian aerial attacks. Recent strikes involving drones, ballistic, and hypersonic missiles have targeted Kyiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia, causing power outages and at least nine deaths. The effectiveness of Ukrainian defenses has been challenged by the exhaustion of Patriot interceptor missiles.

In Russia, discussions regarding potential new military mobilisation are increasing as the war continues to impact the national economy. Analysts suggest that large-scale mobilisation could strain the administrative system and impact public approval, similar to the social unrest and emigration seen following the first mobilisation in September 2022.
