Ukraine refugees under EU temporary protection reach 4.41 million

As of June 30, 2026, more than 4.41 million non-EU citizens fleeing the war in Ukraine have been granted temporary protection status within the European Union, according to data released by Eurostat.

This figure represents a 0.6 percent increase, or approximately 24,400 additional people, compared to the end of May 2026. Ukrainian nationals account for over 98.5 percent of all individuals under this protection status. The demographic breakdown includes adult women at 43.4 percent, adult men at 27 percent, and minors making up nearly one-third of the total.

Germany hosts the largest number of protected individuals with approximately 1.29 million people, followed by Poland with 961,170 and the Czech Republic with 390,810. While the number of people under temporary protection increased in 24 of the 27 EU member states—with the largest absolute increases seen in Italy, the Czech Republic, and Germany—decreases were recorded in Poland, Belgium, and Ireland.
