Ukraine says drones kill 30,000 Russian troops as US imposes new sanctions on Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that in July Ukrainian forces eliminated 30,272 Russian soldiers using drones, a figure that includes both killed and seriously wounded and is based on video‑verified cases. The Russian Defence Ministry, meanwhile, reported shooting down 302 Ukrainian long‑range drones over several regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Kaluga, Kursk, Oryol, Tula and Moscow oblast.

The United States added further sanctions targeting multiple units of the Russian Defence Ministry, two Russian companies and several Russian individuals, citing activities related to the proliferation of weapons to Iran, North Korea and Syria. Russian forces have also carried out drone attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine, causing casualties in areas such as the Moscow region, Crimea and the Black Sea coast, while Finland temporarily restricted air traffic over the eastern Gulf of Finland.
