Ukraine scales robotic warfare and conducts eastern counteroffensive

Ukraine is increasingly integrating autonomous systems and robotics into its military strategy to address manpower shortages. President Zelensky has announced plans to scale up the production of Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) to 50,000 units in 2026. While humanoid combat robots, such as the Phantom MK-1 from the US startup Foundation, are undergoing early trials, the current focus remains on specialized drones and UGVs like the DevDroid TW 12.7, which allows soldiers to operate heavy weaponry from a distance.

On the battlefield, the Ukrainian 3rd Army Corps has reportedly conducted a patient counteroffensive in the eastern sector near Lyman. Using tactics that combine infantry squads with drone swarms, the unit has pushed Russian forces back up to 15 kilometers, potentially threatening Russian supply lines. These incremental gains are supported by heavy use of strike and observation drones to route defenders from their positions.
