Ukraine Secures U.S. Patriot Production License Deal as Zelensky Pushes Diplomatic Revamp

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a landmark agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump to obtain licenses for the production of Patriot air‑defence systems in Ukraine. He said negotiations have concluded and technical teams from both sides are now working to implement the arrangement, which he described as a historic step for Ukraine’s defence sector.

Zelensky also outlined changes in diplomatic strategy aimed at speeding up the delivery of promised arms packages. He stressed that the gap between announcing support and its actual delivery should be measured in weeks, not months, and called for tighter cooperation with European partners on missile‑defence projects such as SAMP/T, IRIS‑T and NASAMS. The president linked the urgency to recent Russian attacks, noting ballistic‑missile strikes on Kyiv, Sumy and Odesa and extensive drone bombardments across several regions. He highlighted a recent meeting with Trump at the NATO summit in Ankara, where the licence issue and broader defence cooperation were discussed.
