Ukraine seeks additional $20 billion in military aid from Western allies
Ukraine will ask its Western partners for an extra $20 billion in military assistance at the Contact Group for Ukraine meeting on June 18. The funds are intended for air‑defence systems, drones, ammunition, electronic‑warfare capabilities and the purchase of weapons, including support for the domestic defence industry.
The request follows earlier commitments of about $38 billion in aid for 2026, and would raise total support to roughly $60 billion. Officials say individual donors could contribute between $2 billion and $6 billion, using either direct aid or loan arrangements. The aim is to preserve Ukraine’s current battlefield momentum as Russian advances have slowed.
Ukrainian officials describe the financing as urgent, stressing a six‑to‑nine‑month window to capitalize on their existing advantage over Russia.
