Ukraine seeks over $20 bn in new military aid, including $750 m boost from US Senate

The U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee approved a proposal to raise American military assistance for Ukraine by $750 million, adding the amount to the National Defense Authorization Act. The funding is earmarked for weapons production and intelligence support and will still require full Senate and House approval before the president signs it.

At the same time, Ukrainian officials are preparing to ask allied governments for an additional $20 billion at the next Contact Group for Ukraine meeting. The request, aimed at sustaining Ukraine’s air‑defence, drone operations and electronic‑warfare capabilities, would be split among partner nations, each contributing between $2 billion and $6 billion. Ukraine currently allocates roughly 40 % of its GDP to defence and has already secured $38 billion in aid for the year. The additional funds would push total bilateral assistance toward the $60 billion target set by NATO.
