Ukraine seeks urgent air defense and increased funding amid Russian attacks

President Volodymyr Zelensky has intensified calls for increased European support as Ukraine faces critical shortages in air defense and a significant budget deficit. During discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, Macron pledged to expedite the delivery of new anti-aircraft ammunition and missiles to help defend Ukrainian airspace against Russian ballistic missile strikes.

Ukraine is currently awaiting the delivery of Italian-French SAMP/T-NG missile systems, which are designed to intercept ballistic missiles. This request follows a wave of Russian attacks that killed seven people across various cities, including Kyiv and the Zaporizhzhia region. These strikes follow a previous attack on a shopping center in Kryvyi Rih that resulted in 16 deaths.

In addition to military hardware, Zelensky is seeking substantial financial assistance to address a defense budget deficit estimated at $27 billion. He emphasized that while local drone and missile production has enabled successful operations, sufficient funding is required to maintain offensive capabilities and intensify strikes against Russian territory.
