Ukraine strikes Orsk oil refinery amid Russian attacks on Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia
Ukrainian forces announced a drone strike on the Orsknefteorgsintez oil refinery in the Orenburg region of Russia. The facility, which has an annual capacity of 6 million tonnes of crude oil, reportedly caught fire following the attack. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, and bitumen. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that strikes on energy infrastructure aim to limit the oil revenues used by Moscow to fund the war.
Simultaneously, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported overnight strikes on Ukrainian logistics and transport hubs. In Kyiv, Russian forces targeted the Nova Posta sorting complex, which Moscow claims handles dual-use goods such as drone components and electronic warfare equipment, as well as the Kyiv-3 logistics center.
In Zaporizhzhia, Russian strikes hit the Zaporizhstal steel plant, a major producer of steel plates for military applications. Ukrainian officials reported that the strikes in Zaporizhzhia resulted in six deaths and 20 injuries. Both sides have denied intentionally targeting civilians.
