Ukraine uses ground robots equipped with RPGs in combat
Ukrainian soldiers are increasingly mounting anti-tank rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) onto ground robots to operate within high-risk 'kill zones' along the front lines. This tactical shift is driven by the extreme danger posed by the heavy concentration of surveillance and strike drones, which makes traditional infantry movement to within RPG range highly perilous.
Oleg Fedoryshyn, R&D director at Ukrainian robot manufacturer DevDroid, noted that the battlefield has evolved such that soldiers can no longer use these weapons manually while remaining safe. By utilizing robotic platforms, operators can engage armored vehicles and fortified positions from a significant distance.
Other manufacturers are also adapting; Temerland has developed the Gnom-VP ground robotic fire support platform, which is capable of carrying two RPG-7 launchers alongside mine-laying capabilities. This trend reflects a broader transformation in ground combat, where cheap drone technology and unmanned systems are replacing traditional infantry and armored vehicle engagements.
