Ukraine military integration of unmanned systems
Overview
The Ukrainian military is increasingly integrating unmanned systems and specialized hardware to counter drone threats on the battlefield.
Recent combat footage shows the 475th Separate Assault Regiment utilizing armored vehicles, including an American Bradley, equipped with metal structures referred to as ‘armored hedgehogs’ to protect against enemy drones. During these operations, Ukrainian reconnaissance and combat drones, such as the ‘Vampire’ drone, are used to monitor engagements and intercept incoming Russian FPV drones.
In addition to aerial technology, there is a tactical shift toward using ground robots to mitigate risks in high-danger ‘kill zones.’ Due to the prevalence of surveillance and strike drones, soldiers are mounting RPGs onto robotic platforms. Manufacturers like DevDroid and Temerland are developing these systems, such as the Gnom-VP, which can carry RPG-7 launchers and mine-laying equipment, allowing operators to engage targets from a safer distance.
