Ukraine war escalates with Kyiv attacks and deep strikes into Russia

Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine on Sunday killed at least two people in the capital Kyiv, injured three more and sparked a fire in a multi‑storey building near the historic centre. Additional strikes hit Kharkiv, where a drone attack killed one and injured six, including two children, and the southern city of Zaporizhzhia, where a glide‑bomb killed one and wounded six. The Russian defence ministry said it had downed 133 Ukrainian drones over Russian, Black Sea and Crimean territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine carried out a long‑range strike that reached the Russian‑controlled Rostov region, hitting an export terminal about 250 km from the front. He also claimed attacks on oil‑related facilities in the Yaroslavl area and the Udmurt Republic, describing these zones as previously “secure” Russian territories. Zelensky highlighted the operations as part of efforts to weaken Russia’s war economy and increase pressure on Moscow.
