Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has warned that Russian airspace is no longer safe for civil aviation due to the high volume of drone operations. Ukraine has officially notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) of these dangers, prompting the UN body to urge member states to strengthen protections for aircraft in conflict zones.

The warning has led to immediate disruptions in air travel. Several Russian airports, including Vnukovo, Sheremetyevo, and Domodedovo, have implemented flight restrictions. International carriers, such as Turkey’s Pegasus Airlines, have reportedly canceled or delayed numerous flights to and from Russia. Some flights between Moscow and Baku have also been affected.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded by labeling the warnings as “state terrorism” and claimed that such threats hinder potential peace negotiations. Russian Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin dismissed the concerns, stating that authorities are working to prevent significant disruptions to civil aviation.

Meanwhile, the aerial conflict continues to escalate, with reports of intensified drone and missile strikes across Ukraine, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure in regions including Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro.
