Ukraine's Andrii Sybiha Urges Global Support for Black Sea Shipping

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a phone call with EU foreign‑policy chief Kaja Kallas, briefing her on Russia’s recent attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian vessels in the Black Sea. He stressed that safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Black Sea is critical for global food security and called for the activation of EU Solidarity Lanes to keep maritime routes open.

Sybiha also spoke with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, highlighting the same security concerns and urging India to play a more active role in peace efforts. He noted that attacks on merchant ships, such as the cargo vessel MV AMIR1 where 13 Indian crew members are stranded, threaten global supply chains and energy markets. Both ministers agreed to maintain close contact and continue dialogue on maritime safety and broader diplomatic cooperation.
