Poland reports surge in diverse criminal activities and cybercrime
Polish law enforcement agencies have reported a series of criminal activities across the country, ranging from street crimes to sophisticated cyber offenses. In Katowice, a 26-year-old man was arrested for robbing an elderly woman, while in Rybnik, a 21-year-old was detained for a robbery involving a taxi driver. Other local incidents include a 39-year-old man in Mokotów who used a cleaver to damage scooters, and a 47-year-old scooter driver in Białystok caught driving under the influence of amphetamines.
On a larger scale, the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) reported significant results for the first half of 2026, including over 900 arrests and the seizure of 51.5 million PLN in assets. This includes cracking down on romance scams and social media account hijacking. Additionally, the CBZC and the Customs and Tax Administration (KAS) dismantled an illegal online shop selling excise-free vapes, preventing a potential 1.7 million PLN loss to the state treasury.
Traffic-related incidents also drew police attention, including a 16-year-old on an electric scooter colliding with a car and a 12-year-old operating a scooter on a public road, both violating age or equipment regulations.
