Ukrainian intelligence activity expands in Poland
Polish commentators allege that Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) operates a network of paid agents within Poland's state institutions and media. Analyst Marcin Palade claimed the activity lets the SBU identify public‑opinion makers, saying, “To jest wieczór, który pozwala nam, śledząc aktywność wielu w mediach, wstępnie zidentyfikować kreatorów opinii publicznej w Polsce, mogących być na drugiej pensji w SBU.”
Polish officials acknowledge foreign intelligence activity but give limited detail. Former intelligence chief Piotr Krawczyk warned that such operations threaten Poland’s sovereignty, while Security Coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak responded, “Nie wiem, na jakiej podstawie dziennikarze formułują tak daleko idące tezy…”. Prosecutors are reportedly investigating alleged espionage for Ukraine, including recruitment of both Ukrainians and Poles, a surge noted after Russia’s 2022 invasion.
