Ukrainian MiG‑29s suffer multiple losses in June 27 attacks
On the night of 27 June 2026 the Ukrainian Air Force lost a MiG‑29 during a combat mission over the Poltava region; the pilot ejected, was rescued and taken to medical care. In a separate incident the Russian Defence Ministry reported that two Ukrainian MiG‑29s were destroyed on the ground at Voznesensk air base in the Mykolaiv region by Geran‑4 loitering‑munition drones. Russia also announced that a Su‑35 fighter shot down a MiG‑29 at about 190 km using an R‑37M long‑range air‑to‑air missile. Ukrainian authorities confirmed the loss of the aircraft engaged in the Poltava sortie and said an investigation was under way. The combined reports highlight the attrition of Ukraine’s MiG‑29 fleet, which has lost more than 50 aircraft since the war began, and underscore the expanding use of long‑range missiles and drone strikes by both sides.
“We confirm the loss of the aircraft, but the Ukrainian pilot successfully ejected, contacted the search‑and‑rescue team, and was promptly transported to a medical facility,” the Ukrainian Air Force said.
