Ukrainian Naval Drone Explodes in Romania’s Port of Constanta

A Ukrainian naval drone detonated in the Black Sea port of Constanta, Romania, on 5 June. The explosion caused no injuries, and Romanian authorities activated emergency protocols and evacuated the area. President Klaus Iohannis confirmed that the unmanned surface vessel, part of Ukraine’s maritime operations, lost control after being targeted by Russian electronic‑warfare systems, as reported by the Ukrainian navy.

Romanian officials said three additional explosive‑laden drones were discovered nearby, and all four drones that had strayed into Romanian waters later detonated. The incident follows a similar event on 29 May, when a Russian‑made drone crashed in Galaţi, injuring two people. Romanian and Ukrainian authorities exchanged information to prevent civilian casualties.
