Ukrainian naval drones stray into Romania and Greece, explode without casualties

On June 5, a Ukrainian uncrewed surface vessel lost navigation after being jammed by Russian electronic warfare and drifted into Romania’s busy Constanţa port. The drone self‑detonated near the pier, causing no injuries. Ukrainian authorities alerted the Romanian Navy, and Romania’s defence ministry confirmed the explosion and the absence of civilian harm.

A separate incident involved an armed Ukrainian unmanned surface vessel discovered near the Greek island of Lefkada. The drone, packed with about 70 kg of explosives, was recovered after Greek authorities halted it, prompting an official apology from Ukraine’s foreign ministry. Kyiv attributed the drift to the ongoing Russian aggression and affirmed its commitment to maritime safety.

Both events highlight how the war’s spill‑over effects threaten neighbouring neutral waters, prompting diplomatic exchanges between Ukraine, Romania and Greece.
