Zelensky dismisses Ukraine's US ambassador Olha Stefanishyna

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on 3 August 2026 removing Olha Stefanishyna from her post as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States. Stefanishyna, appointed in July 2025, had served for nearly a year. She said the decision was personal, citing “personal circumstances” and praised the embassy’s work in increasing U.S. weapons deliveries and maintaining support during a shifting political climate in Washington.

The decree gave no reason for the dismissal and no successor has been named. The move comes amid a broader reshuffle that replaced the prime minister and defence minister, and it follows a long‑running anti‑corruption investigation into her asset‑declaration filings, though she has not been formally charged.
