Romanian Port of Constanta Struck by Exploding Ukrainian Sea Drone

A Ukrainian Navy‑operated sea drone, identified as a Magura‑type vessel carrying several dozen kilograms of explosives, lost control after Russian electronic‑warfare jamming during a Black Sea mission. The unmanned craft drifted into Romanian waters and self‑detonated near the commercial port of Constanta on the morning of 5 June 2026.

Romanian defence officials cordoned off the area, evacuated more than 1,100 residents and secured the shoreline. No injuries or fatalities were reported, and the explosion caused only material damage to port facilities. The incident follows a recent Russian drone crash in Galati that injured two people, heightening security concerns along Romania’s Black Sea coast.

Romanian and Ukrainian authorities exchanged warnings prior to the blast, and the European Council condemned the event as a spill‑over of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Subsequent searches found three additional unmanned surface vessels near the Romanian coast.
